Living in Fairfax County has many advantages. One is the great schools – another all the great and affordable activities for your preschool children. Here are some great activities for you to try.
1) Feel a Roaring Jet Engine (Free)
Not in Fairfax County but probably close enough for most… Kids of all ages enjoy watching the huge planes land from Gravelly Point next to the Ronald Reagan National Airport (off the GW Parkway by the Potomac River.) You can literally see people through the window in the landing planes. Bring a blanket and some food and make it a family picnic (if you are worried about noise, bring earplugs for everyone.) (you can get there via the bike path as well.)

2) Watch a Puppet Show at Your Local Library (Free)
The Fairfax County Libraries arrange events throughout the year. Most of them are centered around reading, stories or songs. However they also have events and classes like Holidays around the world, Gingerbread Tales, Ballet-tumble class, Bob Brown Puppets, Bouncin’ Babies, Fun Flicks and more.
You can see the list of current classes at Fairfax County libraries here.
3) Lend A Hand On A Farm (Free – some programs extra)
The Frying Pan Farm Park is great for children and adults of all ages and is open daily. They offer classes and programs in dance, equestrian, fine arts, exercise and fitness as well as week long day camps. They also have a great program called “Little Hands on the Farm” where 2-3 year olds can keep themselves very busy with important little chores.
